A new £5.5m industrial park in Coalville, set to create 120 jobs, is now open for business.
Apollo Court Business Park – developed by Leicestershire County Council – will boost business in the town by supporting start-ups and firms looking to expand.
A range of high-spec industrial units ranging from 1,000 to 9,000 sq. ft. (92-836 sq. m.) have been built by construction company, Willmott Dixon.
The venture is part-funded by a £2.4m allocation from the Local Growth Fund, a pot of government funding awarded to the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership Limited (LLEP) for projects that benefit the local area and economy.
Councillor Byron Rhodes, deputy leader at Leicestershire County Council, said: “I’m over the moon with what we have achieved at Apollo Court.
“Supporting businesses is important; it helps boost our local economy and creates job.
“Investing in property in this way will also help us generate income which we can then plough back into services.
“We have been very pleased with the level of occupier interest in the units and hope to make some announcements soon.”
Michelle Cotterill, director at Willmott Dixon, the construction company in charge of the build, said: “We are pleased that Apollo Court Business Park is now complete for Leicestershire County Council and are looking forward to seeing it give small local businesses the opportunity to thrive.
“During its construction we have invested £437,000 into the local communities through engaging with schools and colleges and ensuring 91 per cent of spend and 78 per cent of labour were within 40 miles of the facility.”
The scheme is part of the LLEP’s strategic economic plan which aims to create 45,000 extra jobs, reduce unemployment by 50 per cent, support 15,000 businesses to expand and help 1,000 start-ups – Coalville is earmarked as a priority area.
Minister of State for Local Growth, the Rt Hon Jake Berry MP, said: “We’re committed to boosting economic growth across the whole of the Midlands Engine – ensuring every community has the support and investment it needs to flourish as we prepare to leave the EU on the 31st October.
“I am delighted to see this £2.4m investment from the Government’s Local Growth Fund enabling the completion of a new business park in Coalville. These new state-of-the-art industrial units will provide increased opportunities for business start-ups and the retention of expanding businesses while creating 120 new jobs.”
