Really pleased to finally get our newly formed Leicester and Leicestershire Business and Skills Board up and running at our first meeting on Monday this week.
I was appointed as Chair by the City Mayor and Leader of the Leicestershire County Council to help establish the Board as part of our role in helping both authorities in their economic prosperity agenda. Both Upper Tier Authorities were keen to ensure a Business Voice was at the heart of their decision making , and we have a great partnership.
Wonderful to be at MIRA Technology Park again yesterday to be part of the celebration of the Kings Award for Enterprise and Sustainable Development.
I love working with Mira and Sarah Windrum Declan Allen Tim Nathan Jack Bartlett and the team. What happens at MIRA is still not widely understood so it is always good to shout about this leading economic driver in our County through the LLEP Enterprise Zone
It was a pleasure to join Mike Denby and Rebecca Henson on behalf of Invest in Leicester and the LLEP at the East Midlands Property Dinner. It is vital the Leicestershire voice is strong across the region so it was great to meet so many involved in the major developments we have seen in recent years, and more importantly the future pipeline.
Back to the hashtag#Sports agenda this week, after a bit of a mini break focussing on the wider social and economic issues facing Loughborough, Leicestershire and the country. It has been useful to put into context the 'sport and physical activity' lobby in this wider context! The @llep Business Board Kick starts in mid September too!
Andy Reed OBE to chair Board as part of new Business and Skills Partnership
Andy Reed OBE has been appointed to chair a new Business Board tasked with helping to shape economic strategy in Leicester and Leicestershire.
The Leicester and Leicestershire Business Board will bring senior public and private sector leaders together to consider matters relating to growth in the city and county.
Shadow Business Secretary visited Charnwood Campus in Loughborough this week alongside local labour candidate Jeevun Sandher to talk to business leaders about the Labour’s Plans to boos growth.
Labour Society for Sport kicks off with Sports Dinner at the Oval
Last night's inaugural Labour Society for Sport dinner at the Oval cricket ground was hosted by the original voice of the Champions League Clive Tyldesly wielding a branded mic and roving camera (who promised in the case of heavy rain to move outside and continue his address at the outdoor lectern, providing the crowd serenaded him with D:Ream)
Andy Reed last week played alongside his former parliamentary colleagues in a charity football game at QPR to celebrate 50 years of the Lobby football team.
Reed was invited by Ed Balls (captain) to join the line up…which included newly elected Mayors - Sadiq Khan, Andy Burnham, Steve Rotherham, Former MPs David Miliband, Jim Murphy, James Purnell and current MPs Stephen Kinnock Ben Bradley, Huw Merrimack and Justin Madders as well as old timers and staffers like Andy!
As I rebalance my portfolio in 'retirement' I am really pleased to say it has given me the chance to offer some volunteering time ahead of the general election on possibly my favourite and only skill area - Sport and physical activity policy formulation and delivery! I've signed on the dotted line and am now deeply committed to helping for this next period - who knows how long for!
I am delighted to have been appointed as a Strategic Advisor to MIRA Technology Park to help them deliver their ambitious growth Plans in the Region. I will be engaging with key stakeholders across the East of the Region and in Westminster.
“I have supported MIRA Tech Park as LLEP Chair because it is a critical site for our local economy and I am thrilled to continue to do so in this new role.
