Having served on a range of Sport Boards over the last decade I can hopefully give people a taste of what this may entail and just as importantly what it doesn’t!

I have served on the Boards of NGBs, Sport Charities, Strategic partnership bodies like the SRA and CIMSPA. Whilst they have all varied in size and scale the principles remain the same. Indeed whilst serving on the Board of World Vision UK -part of a global charity in international development I realised all the principles of governance are transferable across sectors.

I am happy to discuss Boards and what this means for friends and colleagues over coffee. There are plenty of great resources available through the Sport and Recreation Alliance - Governance Resources from the SRA

As part of the discussion I would look to explore theese sort of questoins .

Why do you want to serve on a Board. Is this the best way to use your volunteer time. ?

What skills do you bring? Boards are far more skills based. Do you have specific skills to match the needs of a modern Board.

How open are you to the variety of Board opportunities available - not just you favourite sport!
