I was cleaning up my old website (another of those #Lockdown jobs that has finally been completed) and I came across the post and blog I did below.

Guess what. Whilst I love to think I have this work/life balance thing under control seeing this from 2013 and comparing to life in lockdown I realised how wrong I have been. I have finally found a new rhythm to life which is far more realistic to making a life - not just a living.

I know i’m way beyond fortunate to have the choices ahead about what sort of life I want. I am really conscious that lockdown has been really tough and devastating for millions of families. Research from the Resolution Foundation highlights the growing divide. I am afraid we are amongst those who have managed to save during this period even though our income for our business has reduced substantially. We have had a very middle class crisis. An enforced long break from being too busy with a comfrotable home, space, parks and countryside walks. It’s actaully been very pleasant.

So we have made a lifestyle choice. We won’t be taking on many more work projects, but we will be diving in deep to make a life - but not just for ourselves.

We set up Saje Impact in 2010 to have time to create a positive impact on those at greatest disadvantage at home and across the globe. We set out to tackle poverty and social injustice. That passion did get distracted by busyness I will admit - but the Covid Crisis has given me an impetus to stop being distracted and to go back to making a life. And importantly not just for me and the family - but for the community around us. (More about ‘community’ to come)

So I have asked people to hold me to account for taking on much more ‘work’ and to make sure I am concentrating my time and efforts on the important things in creating fulfilling llives for others. That will still be through economic regeneration and wellbeing as my areas of significant interest. And from this I have plenty of things to say and contributions to make! Some of these will continue to be political so I have rebranded my political blog and realaunched it with a wider remit to look at policy solutions and working through other Think Tanks.
