Today's Rabbit Hole of thoughts

My mind works at 100% trying to link multiple agendas and getting involved in too many things. I always 8-9 books ‘on the go’ and multiple tabs open on my computer.

It is Saturday morning and after 3 hours of DiY I feel the need to write and share my thoughts. Most of my thoughts are not original but I think I can help some groups I work with understand each other better.

This is what I need to get out of my haed and onto my screen today

  • My Boris blog on Substack and start drafting next weeks non Boris blog for View from the Margin

  • Follow up a Car Bennet LinkedIn Post on the interaction with health and leisure. He expresses much of the frustrations I feel. STT Opinion piece I think with a connection into policy meetings I am having with Labour front benchers soon. My sport and leisure friends mean well, but there ae some uncomfortable truths to be told and why governments aren’t going to fund the leisure of those already active!

  • This ONS and wellbeing data I cam across today How health has changed in your area - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) - which then links to my work on wellbeing and digging into the What works world of policy making. I think the words wellbeing and happiness are a barrier to making progress on the wider agenda here. I probably need to clearlt state what I mean by wellbeing.

  • This area spans both my sports work and my economic development thinking. We can’t just get people doing sport or building shiny new things. The research is pretty clear on wellbeing and happiness, which is largely around relationships and stability/ security.

  • With my LLEP hat I am keen to bring these strands together for the what works in economic development and how we achieve levelling up when we know too much our place based work is way behind where we need to be. A week in France observing pride in place and the public realm was a wake up call to just how run down Britain feels

  • I have 6 draft Blogs for SajeImpact from conversations this week - consumerism, confidence, Board experience, Dealing with conflict the freedom of simplicity, Hygge and my favourite book on framing - Don’t think of an Elephant

So these are my open Tabs
