It was a pleasure to join Martin Traynor OBE, FIH, MIoD at the The Rotary Club of Leicester this week to talk about one of my areas of policy/passion - physical activity and movement for young people.

🤸 At Active Together we care about sport, physical activity and movement across the age groups as well as every part of Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland but I have always felt (Alongside the evidence from the Commission Designed to Move) that we need to embed a sense of joy and fun in moving at an early stage and creating an active environment for us all to continue throughout life.

🔊 I find often that people don't share my passion for physical activity and the benefits to individuals society and communities - which I understand. It is a little niche in all of the world's problems! But I have to say from the questions and the catch up with so many of those in the room, that they understood the challenges faced by young people today, and the levels of anxiety they feel. Many were already taking the simple measures to do their CMO Guideline 150 mins / 75 mins a week of activity and others were helping in their local communities to make positive changes. By campaigning for safer cycle routes to schools, or improving local parks and rivers.

👍 System change requires the whole system to feel the need to change and this often means thousands of micro solutions in community not just the grand projects. I came away quite uplifted that with the right support and encouragement we can all play a part in getting the nation moving again.
