Just to confirm my retirement from full contact rugby is nearly complete. Whilst I still ran out for the House of Commons rugby team against the Welsh Senedd at The Lensbury at the weekend it was 90% running touch and 10 minutes to be on the pitch to be at the end of the game for the photos!!
👊 Thanks to all the volunteers who make our parliamentary games and inter parliamentary connections possible. The cross party nature of these games are vital for work across the Home Nations and across the political divide. Friendships are made through sport like nothing else! Thanks to Rhun ap Iorwerth for his continued support despite the political pressure at the moment.
🏆 The first full game took place in 2003 and shows the devolution agenda works well, as our Welsh colleagues have won every game! The Senedd team replaced the invitation teams we played in the early days including a Cardiff mayors XV we played against - with a team that consisted of all welsh Internationals and at least 5 British Lions. Of course we lost 22-2 (Tries not points!)
🏉 For me hashtag#Rugby has been a big part of my life and I will miss it as even the 10 minutes will be reduced to officiating from nest season. Just a big thanks to everyone who has made the last 4o years on the pitch possible! hashtag#Volunteers are the backbone of every sport. Thank You!
