It’s always a honour to be invited by Sporting Equals especially to last night’s Awards in London.

But I’m struck by the balance between celebration and the reality of our current climate. In the last 9 years of being involved in the event the need for the work od SE is even greater sadly. Progress isn’t always linear.

Having worked alongside Nik Trivedi and the team for years to dismantle systemic racism and inequality, these moments are more than just ceremonies. They are a necessary reminder of the challenges many of our communities face.

At a time when divisive rhetoric feels increasingly loud, the local projects honored last night prove that community cohesion isn't just an ideal—it is being built, brick by brick, game by game through sport. Cohesion is another power of sport…

While we took the time to celebrate the incredible leaders making a difference, the evening served as a stark reminder of the work ahead. We aren't just playing for trophies at elite level; we are working to ensure that equality exists outside in the lived experience of everyone across the country.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. Your resilience in the face of those trying to divide us is the ultimate win.
