Levelling Up - Does it stack up?

Levelling Up - Does it stack up?

We have now all seen the long awaited Levelling Up White Paper. It has been a long time coming because this policy started life as a slogan and not much more. Now some serious thought has gone into this policy where does it leave us?

For me the policy had to pass a number of tests.

Does the analysis and remedies make sense - economically and socially ?

Does it recognise what has and hasn’t worked in the past (The name is new but tackling regional inequalities isn’t) ?

Are there achievable targets and ways to measure progress/ success ?

Are the resources available to match the ambition?

Charwood Campus - Life Sciences Opportunity

Charwood Campus - Life Sciences Opportunity

A visit to the Charnwood Campus today to catch up with the progress of the old AZ site as a Life Sciences cluster opportunity. When AZ pulled out in 2010 it was a massive blow to the towns economy and the individuals concerned. It was one of the biggest issues of bad news that crossed my desk as an MP. I still recall where I was and the gut wrenching feeling when I was told by the AZ CEO of their Board decision.

Fast forward a decade and now through my volunteering still championing what the site has to offer for jobs and wealth creation in the local economy! Great to catch up with the team and see what more we can do to work together across the various agencies and local authorities.

The value is is the relationship.

Sport Park Development Underway

Sport Park Development Underway

Work has just begun to create a 2,000 sq m four-storey fourth pavilion to expand SportPark, the multi award-winning development for the UK’s sports sector, on Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park.

Scheduled for completion in Winter 2022, the £9M project will be built to Passivhaus Classic Accreditation to significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

The first Passivhaus development on the University campus, SportPark Pavilion 4 presents sports organisations with the unique opportunity to secure environmentally future-proof accommodation, tailored to their needs. It will enable occupants to reduce their carbon footprint and operating costs thanks to highly efficient heat pumps, opening triple-glazed windows for natural ventilation, solar shading to avoid summer overheating and continuous and well-insulated building fabric to minimise heat loss.
