I had an uplifting time spent yesterday at Loughborough University celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Volleyball England alongside the National Championships.
While many of you know me for my life in rugby, volleyball holds a massive place in my sporting journey. It took me back to my younger days playing for school, the Boys' Brigade, De Montfort University , and my local club, Leicester PVC.
I still love volleyball as one of the most social sports Iβve played
After attending the VIP reception and watching the action on court, I was once again struck by one thing: the power of the volunteer. Well done to Charlie Ford and Guin Batten for steering us through the afternoon. As always richard callicott OBE good to spend time with you!
Whether itβs rugby, volleyball, or any grassroots sport, the passion of those working behind the scenes is the heartbeat of the game. But as I said to Dr. Alton Brown (Hon FLSBU) the problems for volleyball - coaches/ facilities/ funding have remained with EVERY generation and committee!
These individuals donβt just give their time; they give their heart to ensure the next generation has a court to play on and a community to belong to.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved in reaching this milestone. The energy in the room at Loughborough was proof that the sport is in great hands.
Well done to all the players, coaches, and especially the volunteers who made the weekend possible!
