We all know life can get busy, and sometimes it feels like we're just going through the motions. I started thinking about what really matters and how I can live a more meaningful life a long time ago but ironically it is only now that I have more time to write it down!
I came up with a simple list, a kind of like a checklist for myself. It’s based on these eight things. In discussions with fiends going through changes in their own lives and work patterns I have been trying to iterate this. Thoughts?
😊 Connect: This is about connecting with people. It can be a quick call to a family member, a chat with a friend, or just saying hello to a neighbour. It reminds me I'm not alone and that we all need each other.
🤸 Be Active: It’s really not about hitting the gym. It’s about moving my body in a way that feels good. A walk outside, some stretching, It helps clear my head and gives me energy. Although I do still thrive with hashtag#rugby training!
👴 Take Notice: We often rush through our day without really seeing anything. This one is about slowing down and paying attention. Noticing the sunshine, a good song on the radio, or a nice thing someone did. It helps me appreciate the small, good things in life.
📚 Keep Learning: I love this one. It's about being curious. It could be reading a new book, listening to a podcast, or trying to learn a new skill. It keeps my mind sharp and makes life more interesting. If we think we are done learning we are dead inside!
💬 Give: This is about giving back, but it doesn't have to be a big. It could be helping a friend, volunteering for an hour, or even just offering a kind word. It feels good to know I've made a positive difference, no matter how small.
💭 Mindfulness: This is about being fully in the moment. It means not worrying about the past or the future, but just focusing on right now. It helps me stay calm and present. It doesn't have to the whole mindfulness approach- just be present!
⏲️ Resilience: Life isn't always easy. This value is about being able to handle tough times and bounce back. It's about not giving up when things get hard. But also learning from the mistakes I've made.
💤 Rest: This is so important. It's about making sure I get enough sleep and time to relax. My body and mind need a break to recharge and be at their best. Balanced with strain, and activity and good nutrition.!
These eight values aren’t always easy to stick to, but when I do, I feel a lot more balanced and happier. It’s a work in progress! Would you add any or ignore some of these?
