It was a weekend of celebration and new beginnings for our Director Andy Reed’s community side Birstall RFC. They were one of the country’s lucky clubs to receive a £500 reward and guest appearance from ex-professional rugby player Martin Corry MBE for this year’s NatWest Rugby Force Weekend.

Now in its fifth year, the community initiative run in partnership between NatWest and England Rugby aims to help clubs across the country attract new members and become stronger and more sustainable businesses.

Over the weekend, rugby icon Martin Corry talked to some of the club representatives, offering his specific knowledge and expertise in the game to help Birstall RFC achieve their development goals. Before leading a training session with the newly formed U15 team, he assisted Leicestershire Rugby Union President Brian Hesford in awarding his final RFU accreditation from his presidency to the club.

Saje Impact is the one of the main sponsors for Birstall RFC, and it has been very rewarding to see the club thrive and get recognised for its efforts in supporting grassroots development. Securing a new home at the Co-Op sports ground in Birstall will provide the impetus for Birstall RFC to re-build their youth teams, re-energising the 41-year old club.

During the NatWest Rugby Force Weekend it was all hands on deck with volunteers helping at the new ground clearing the hedgerows, cutting the shrubbery, painting the walls and even bricklaying! Saje Impact is proud to sponsor a team that has camaraderie in abundance and embodies the true spirit of grassroots sport.
