Director Andy Reed was a guest at the East Midlands Chamber 2022 Business Awards at The Kingpower Stadium tonight.
Representing the LLEP at the prestigious awards to celebrate the best of Leicestershire business Andy said
“Clearly it’s a tough year for business so it’s probably more important than ever to recognise those individuals and companies that have made a contribution to our local economy and people. Each of the winners deserved their awards, and I know that in most categories it was impossible to pick the stand out winner!
Three new directors have been welcomed onto the Board of the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) during an in-person AGM at City Hall.
The trio were officially announced during the well-attended annual general meeting in Leicester on Wednesday evening.
They will be among 19 LLEP Directors tasked with making decisions relating to the delivery of the objectives and outcomes set out in the Economic Growth Strategy.
The new directors, who take up their roles after a public recruitment exercise during the summer, are:
A real pleasure to join the The United Kingdom Science Park Association at their conference yesterday at Charnwood Campus in Loughborough.
As always a great opportunity to meet experts in their field and learn so much about this important sector. It was also an ideal opportunity to talk a bit about our strategy at the LLEP around our Science Parks and innovation work which are an integral part of our Pillars - Productivity, Innovation, Inclusive and sustainable.
I was particularly speaking on our sustainable and inclusive growth pillars. I am passionate about these. We know trickle-down economics doesn't work and therefore we need to collaborate to ensure business growth across the County is distributed equally. As the OECD has said we need a growth model that is
'equitable and sustainable from the outset'
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) has decided to appoint two joint-chairs as it works with partners on proposed devolution while continuing its day-to-day business.
Andy Reed OBE, who has been serving as interim chair since Kevin Harris stood down in April, will continue to focus on shaping the future of the LLEP.
The former Loughborough MP has also been meeting with representatives of local and national governments in recent months against the backdrop of a proposed County Deal or other devolution arrangement.

This is an important message from the The LEP Network to the leadership candidates ahead of September. The uncertainty caused by the government over the future of the LEPs and our LLEP in Leicestershire has been really unsettling and has delayed collaborative economic partnership working at local level.
We need a period of stability and certainty and a genuinely transparent funding for long term economic regeneration. The bidding and tiny pots of money available waste far too much time and effort.
Given the economic crisis facing the country now is the time to collaborate in the interests of our communities more than ever. It is time to set aside Egos and Logos. I certainly don't want to be using energy debating who does what for another two years or waiting for government to deliver policy initiatives!
SportPark’s new fourth pavilion has been topped out as completion of the £9m development nears completion.
LLEP Interim Chair Andy Reed OBE spoke at an informal ceremony marking the latest milestone in the development of the Loughborough campus.
The 2,000 sq m four-storey pavilion expands the award-winning SportPark development at the Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP).
The highly sustainable building – built to Passivhaus Classic Accreditation standards to reduce CO2 emissions and scheduled for completion at the end of the year – will directly create 165 jobs and induce 157 more in the wider economy.
SportPark 4 is supported by the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) with a £6m allocation from the Getting Building Fund (GBF).
Andy Reed OBE has stepped into the role of Chair of the LLEP on an interim basis as Kev Harris steps down.
Andy Reed said:
Following the announcement that Kevin Harris has decided to step down as Chair of the LLEP when his term ends I have agreed to continue as a Vice Chair, but in the meantime act as an Interim Chair as we look to recruit a new Chair ahead of the AGM.
When I left Parliament over a decade ago I wanted to continue to give my time to my passions for Economic Development in Leicestershire, National policy around sport and physical activity, and issues of tackling global poverty and hunger. I have been fortunate to have served on a wide range of voluntary bodies where I have hopefully made a positive contribution and pursued my passions.
A fascinating day with @llepnews colleagues over @miratechnologyinstitute talking about our innovation strategy for the LLEP.
The agenda has been driven by Dr Nik Kotecha and I’m delighted to have been asked to be the Vice Chair in an area of policy and practise for business where I am still on a steep learning curve
Hitesh, who will take up the role in early May, joins the Coalition from the UK Civil Service where a large part of his career focused on sport at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as Head of International Sport, Major Sports Events and Sports Integrity.
The Coalition is a growing UK-wide movement of more than 230 charities and organisations over-arching thousands of projects and programmes intentionally using sport and physical activity to generate positive social outcomes – as articulated in its new Open Goal campaign which is being launched on April 6th, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The Coalition is supported by Sport England, Comic Relief and Laureus Sport for Good.
